King Bali also laid down the condition that the gods would remain in captivity for four months of the year.  In this way, all the gods reside in the Hades from Devshayani Ekadashi of Ashada Shukla Paksha to Devouthani Ekadashi of Kartik Shukla Paksha.  During this time, the demands of marriage etc. of worldly life are prohibited.
