Unilever company is going to change the name of its beauty product 'Fair and Lovely' amid the movements going on against racial mentality across the world including America. Unilever Company does more than $ 500 million annually in India only from Fair and Lovely brands. Questions were also raised about the cream that promotes white complexion in the campaign to prevent discrimination against blacks across the world.
Unilever Company has said that it will remove words like Fair, Whitening and Lightning from the packaging of its brand. In addition, women of all colors will be given space in advertisements and promotional material. Apart from India, this cream is sold in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan and many countries of Asia.
Since the death of George Floyd in the US, there has been a debate about racial mentality all over the world. Movements like 'Black Lives Matter' are being run in all places. In the same week, Johnson & Johnson Company said it was moving out of the skin whitening business. It also includes products such as the Clean and Clear Fairness brand in India and the Neutrogena Fine Fairness line in Asia.
