Varanasi is one of the oldest continuous residential cities in the world.  Varanasi has been the confluence of various religious converts and has been a cultural and religious center of India for thousands of years.  





Its 8 facts are as follows.










It is said that Banaras was founded by Advet Shivshankar.  Gautama Buddha founded Buddhism here and gave his first teachings in this city.  Many main people of the Bhakti period were born in Varanasi.









Many of the temples of Varanasi were torn down in Aurangzeb's secret, including the Kashi Vishwanath temple.  Varanasi was made a new state under the British rule, whose capital was Ramnagar.










The city is also famous for Banarasi sarees.  Gold-plated saris are unique in themselves.  Sewing silk clothes is the main job here.  Most Muslims are busy with these works.

Tourists are attracted throughout the year to see the famous religious places and historical places here.  Especially the fort of Ramnagar is a prominent place in historical sites.  It is situated on the eastern bank of the Ganges.  It was built by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh in the eighteenth century.  There is also a Jain Ghat which is the birthplace of Lord Parshvanath.  Three Jain temples have been built on this ghat.











The Dashashwamedh Ghat situated on the banks of the Ganges is the oldest ghat.  It is said that Brahma built this ghat for Shiva.  The Kashi Vishwanath Temple located in Varanasi is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.  It is believed that after taking a bath in the Ganges, one can get salvation by visiting this temple.  Sankat Mochan Temple and Durga Temple are one of the holy temples of Hindus.  Among mosques, enlightenment Alam Gir and Bibi Razia mosques are prominent.









Banaras also holds a distinct identity for Khan Paan.  Banarasi pan a langra mango a malayo e kachori jalebi or other food items all add to the Banarasi specialty with their dignity.  In the morning breakfast, the tangy taste of gram gram or the crunchy pan of samosa all have their own unique identity which makes Varanasi unique.

Premchand etc. are famous authors.  In the field of music arts too, the work place of celebrities like Ustad Bismillah Khan, Girija Devi, Sitara Devi, Pandit Ravi Shankar, has been Varanasi.









Kashi Hindu University, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University and Central Tibetan University, Banaras play the sting of knowledge all over the world.
